Making a Living

From the indispensable Seth Godin,

If you love writing or making music or blogging or any sort of performing art, then do it. Do it with everything you’ve got. Just don’t plan on using it as a shortcut to making a living.

In other words, “Don’t Quit Your Day Job.” Many writers have had day jobs as Lapham’s Quarterly pointed out a short while back.

Right now, I’m kicking around some ideas to merge my two passions: writing fiction and blogging. A Fictional Blog? Not quite. But something that will allow me to do both, essentially, and keep readers interested day after day.

Do I see a grand income coming from doing such a new project? Not in the least. It will be for the fun of it.
